Red Rock Rioteer Newsletter
September 2002

Dear Friend,

My apologies for not contacting you sooner. I know your life is hectic, but I hope you can find a few minutes to enjoy this edition of our Rioteer.

Yours editing truly,

Chrysann

P.S. There is one thing I'd like to mention, sort of on the QT, if you will. Not that it could be construed as gossip, but let's keep this between us - no need to pick up the phone or get on the Internet. Of course Lynn is privvy to all the goings on in the hunt, but you might not mention this to her, either.

Here it is: it's about the belt buckle. You know, the BIG ONE Lynn presented to Scott Tepper when he STEPPED DOWN as Joint Master this spring at the HUGE PARTY we had IN HIS HONOR. You will notice that Scott's name has miraculously re-appeared on our letter-head.

In fact his name never even came off the MFHA roster of Masters of Foxhounds. A month or so after announcing his retirement, Scott called Lynn to discuss the possibility of his reinstatement. He said that he had not realized what the hunt and his Mastership really meant to him until they were gone. He wanted to resume his responsibilities as joint MFH without delay. Naturally Lynn understood completely.

Now it is perfectly understandable to me that someone like Scott - a man of a certain cultural persuasion, an attorney, a city-boy, a man with no rural background whatsoever - might lust after a big, shiny, real live cowboy belt buckle. After all, he lives in LA, right next to Hollywood, and he loves horses. But really, I don't know how you feel, but I think this whole charade was a bit much - I mean we dropped a few bucks throwing that big party for him - making that sappy movie with all that elevator music and doe-eyed Serena and Tallulah pictures. All to get his own cowboy buckle. And then when I suggested that he return the buckle until his REAL retirement - well you should have heard what he said to that.

Anyway, I'm really glad that Scott is back and MFH and all, but just between us, what a lot of fuss over a little belt buckle, don't you think?

CC

pps. I love you Scott
