The Story of Lynn's
Hounds...
As Lynn's breeding program
developed, she moved from her original English hounds to
Walker Hounds, a faster, lighter breed. Their
characteristics proved much more suitable for the high, dry,
open desert territory. With a reputation for being
unbiddable, the Walker Hounds traditionally had not received
wide respect from Masters of Foxhounds. This changed
in 1995, when the annual Masters of Foxhounds of America
Fall Board Meeting was held in Reno. After two days of
hunting, the voices of MFH's from across the country jointed
in recognition of the aptitude of our unusually bred pack
for hunting this high desert terrain.
In 2005, the Red Rock Hounds are a keen, biddable, very
fast pack of American Foxhounds, primarily tricolor,
with 75% Walker and 25% English breeding. Lynn's 20 years of selective breeding was recognized formally in 2000, 2003, 2004 and again in 2005 when the Red Rock Hounds won the annual Western Challenge, a competition among western hunts from Kansas to California, Wyoming to New Mexico begun in 1999. The judges recognized our hounds for their nose, drive and biddability, and specifically for their suitability to hunt our particular country. In 2004 the Red Rock Hounds moved the hunt barn and kennels 3 miles south to the 640 acre Ross Creek Ranch. The hounds now enjoy a 2,500 square foot kennel and 10 acres of hound turn outs. The pack contains 70 couple of tri-colored American Walker foxhounds, the only such pack in the world.
