Opening the Season

We opened our season at the end of September witha special sense of appreciation this year. The hunter pace was its usual success: Bodie & Chrysann won fast time yet again, and did not hesitate to gloat shamelessly about their apparent invincibility. Margaret Smith and her granddaughter Katie won optimum time, and no one seems able to remember who won slow time - apologies to the unrecognized.

Shari Buchanan and her stunning daughters won the best poker hand. Shari is a veterinary client of Chrysann's who lives in Spanish Springs and is an avid Western rider. She and her girls barrel race, team pen, and do real live ranch cow work on a regular basis. They came out to the fall hunter pace in support of our hounds. Setting a wonderful example of community spirit, the Buchanans donated their poker hand winnings it to charity in memory of September 11.

At the blessing of the hounds the following day, joint MFH Marshall Ward passed this money into the care of Mike Inskeep, Captain of our Local Volunteer Fire Department. Several of our firefighters attended the blessing in full uniform, and Marshall delivered a thoughtful prayer, expressing our concern for the people of New York and Washington.

We left the blessing and hacked down Red Rock Road to Frontier where Lynn cast the hounds for the first official hunt of the season. The hounds moved off and immediately flushed a beautiful red coyote in full view of the field. Even in the dry conditions hounds gave us a great run on his bushy tail, setting an eager tone for the season ahead.

Wish List

We need a microwave oven for the club room. If you have one, please call Lynn (775-969-3243).

Our new kennel has a full veterinary surgery. We need an anesthesia machine to the tune of $2500. Donations to help defray this cost would be greatly appreciated. Send contributions to Lynn.

Pacific District Meet 2001

In 1989, Los Altos and Red Rock hosted the first Pacific District Meet at David and Malley Stanley's ranch in Yerington, Nevada. Since then, the District Meet tradition has continued every three years in Reno. This undertaking is a daunting organizational challenge, and first off, the Red Rock Hounds want to thank the amazing, effervescent, wonderfully perfectionist, detail-princess, Liz Kelly. Liz is single-handedly responsible for arranging every minute nuance of our District Meet with magnificent managerial flair. Right behind Liz stand Wilma and Win Sample, who drop their busy lives in Anderson, CA every three years to care for the hunt horses stabled at the Livestock Event Center during the District Meet.
